Accurate administration of estates is essential to ensure that the executors or administrators are correctly protected and beneficiaries receieve what they are properly entitled to, observing where required that HMRC must be fully dealt with also.

Obtaining a Grant of Representation

Inheritance Tax ("IHT") account preparation/submission
A key way to avoid difficulties with HM Revenue and Customs is to ensure that any Inheritance Tax account is submitted as completely as possible, giving all necessary detail so as to avoid the Revenue picking holes in it and asking difficult questions. Read more >
Inheritance Tax clearance and claims for loss
Until the Revenue provide Inheritance Tax clearance, it cannot be said that they are ready to close their file and could still ask for more tax. This must be applied for. It is also important to claim back any tax that may have been overpaid if assets are sold at less than the value supplied to the Revenue initally. Read more >
Taxation during administration
The Revenue will expect details of any income or capital gains arising during the administation to be supplied to them and, unfortunately, unless the estate is very simple this involves some reporting to HMRC. Read more >
